Leeds From the Air: Yesterday & Today is a new book of historic and modern aerial photographs of the City of Leeds. With several hundred images, the book gives a new perspective on the city, allowing people to view Leeds' famous landmarks from a vantage point that they may never have seen before, as well as views of areas that have changed beyond almost all recognition. And it's not just the city centre; the book also covers most of the main suburban areas as well. The Images: The superb historic photographs have come from the archives of Leeds Local Studies Library, courtesy of Leodis.net. The images show how the city has changed over the course of the 20th Century, with the earliest pictures dating back to the 1920s.
The modern images have been taken by Webb Aviation. Flying out of Barton Aerodrome near Manchester, Webb Aviations superb colour photographs present Leeds in a new light, and allow comparisons to be made with the old images. Where possible we have attempted to take new pictures that match the old ones, providing us with the opportunity to see the many changes that have occurred. The new pictures range from between 2006 and 2009, with the latest images being taken in April 2009. Please visit the Gallery page for a sample of some of the new photos. |
